SINDAÇÚCAR

History

The Union of the Sugar Industry in Pernambuco was founded in November 20th, 1941. In 1990, when the alcohol was in included in its objectives, it began to be called Union of the Sugar and Alcohol Industry of Pernambuco – SINDAÇÚCAR.

SINDAÇÚCAR works for the development of the sugar and alcohol industry in Pernambuco and, among other activities, it elaborates studies, gives legal assistance to its associates, organizes collective work conventions, stimulates technological development, gives logistic support, develops statistics and participates in the conduction of the industry's policy.

Sixteen companies that produce sugar and alcohol are members of SINDAÇÚCAR.

Organization

SINDAÇÚCAR´s management has a bi-annual mandate. Its composition is as follows: 8 effective directors, 3 substitute directors, 3 effective members and 2 substitutes of the Fiscal Council, 2 representatives and 2 substitutes at FIEPE (Federation of Pernambuco´s Industries).

At the moment the President is Dr. Renato Augusto Pontes Cunha, whom has been a high-profile executive at major companies in the sugar and alcohol industry in the region; e.g. Grupo Antonio Farias and Grupo Armando Monteiro. The superintendent is the administrator Dr. Marcelo Cavalcanti Guerra.

The present board of directors is formed by Gilberto Carvalho Tavares de Melo (Usina Central Olho D'Água S/A), Francisco Luiz Dubeux Dourado (Usina Ipojuca S/A), José Ranulfo da Costa Queiroz Neto (Usina Salgado S/A), Luiz Antonio de Andrade Bezerra (Usina Trapiche S/A) , Paulo Pragana Paiva (Usina Bom Jesus S/A), José Alexandre Bezerra de Meirelles(Usina União e Indústria S/A), José Guilherme Queiroz Filho (Usinas Cruangí S/A e Maravilhas S/A) and Eduardo de Queiroz Monteiro (Usina Cucaú- Zihuatanejo do Brasil Açúcar e Álcool Ltda).
